Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

I suggest you ...

  1. Add event cancellation flag and display canceled events on calendar

    We have events (events where attendees come to volunteer) that get canceled from time-to-time and we do not want to remove them completely from the calendar so that volunteers who may be planning to attend can easily see it is canceled vs. just gone completely. Right now we edit the title and put "CANCELED" at the beginning. I would rather see a cancellation flag in the event and the calendar shows a line through the event, the word "CANCELED" is automatically added to the title, etc. (perhaps allow users to choose from 2-3 display options in setup for an event…

  2. Google Rich Cards Support?

    Google is now going to be having Rich Cards, the evolution of rich snippets. It would be great to be an early adopter and have this support. There is going to be a sitemap feature to these as well with webmaster tools preview.

    Note: right not its only for recipes and movies, but im sure they'll be rolling more out.

  3. Option to automatically list events near to user

    The Map View page ordinarily shows a list of upcoming events, until a user input a location into the "Near/Location" field. I would like to automatically fillout the location field for the user when they hit the default map view page. Using geocoding of the visitors IP, or perhaps via a location request, we can retrieve the users location to fillout this field. You could toggle this option on/off in the settings area.

  4. List of available shortcodes on the back-end at plugin settings.

    Not sure if I am just not seeing it, but if it's not there, how about adding your list of available shortcodes to the Help or Settings section on the back-end of the site? It's mildly irritating to have to go to your website every time, then run a search for shortcodes, then find the correct post in order to get the correct shortcode...

  5. Filter events by date range / day on single venue / organiser pages

    It would be nice to be able to filter the events in a single venue by date.
    Consider in the case of a trade show / festival / university model which may have multiple stages / theatres with multiple events occurring over several days. It would be good to display these both in a page and in a widget.

  6. Customizable permalink structure for individual events

    Allow customization of the permalink structure of individual events. It would be awesome to have the ability to enable permalinks that mirror those used by other posts within Wordpress. For example, the ability to have a URL such as http://www.website.com/events/2016/06/08/event-title/. This would be a big help in avoiding conflicting URLs for repeating events.

  7. Past Events Widget

    It would be awesome to have a Past Events widget to show previous events. My business uses the ECP to show all of our tournaments, and people always want to see the results, which are embedded on each event page. A widget to automatically show the previous (1-20) events would save sooooo much time! Thanks for your consideration!

    This is a great idea and we really appreciate you sharing it. It is very possibly something we could build as an extension or an enhancement we could include in of our feature updates. We will continue keeping an eye on this, and slot it as soon as we can amongst our hundreds of other great feature ideas.

    Cheers!

  8. include WP post_meta fields in keyword search

    Right now, The Events Calendar keyword search searches the Title, Post Body, and Post Excerpt.
    I suggest that you add the option to include selected WP post-meta fields (custom fields) to the keyword search.

    This would be extremely helpful, as a number of sites include various page information in custom post_meta fields. I would suggest it not search post_meta by default, but include the option to select which post_meta fields are included in the keyword search.

  9. Select which event details to show on main views

    The idea is to add an admin interface where users can select which details they want to be viewable on the main calendar views, such as List or Month. An On/Off toggle could be made available for some or all of the following event details:
    * Title
    * Description
    * Featured Image
    * Organizer
    * Venue
    * Recurring
    * Cost
    * Categories
    * Tags
    * Event Website
    In some cases this will allow you to view more fields than are now shown by default, in others it will hide the default details if you toggle them off. This will bring…

  10. List View > Adding infinite scrolling

    Just like using the "infinite Scroll" in Jetpack for blog posts on archive pages. Simply set the number of events in list view you want to have preloaded, and when you reach the end of that list then autoload the next batch...

  11. Notify organizer when event is created

    I Would love to have the possibility that as soon as an event is created an email is send to the organizer.

    Or the possibility to add instructors to an event who are notified that an event is created

  12. Widgets & Shortcodes > Add start_date and end_date parameters

    This would add the ability to show events only within certain dates using our two primary widgets/shortcodes: List & Mini Calendar. You would able to specify a start date, end date, or both.

  14. Allow multi-day event exclusion for dates.

    I would love to see you allow multi-day events to allow exclusion for dates. For example a 5 day training that starts on Wednesday and ends Tuesday, excludes weekend days. You could do this the same way you exclude dates in a reoccurring event now.

  15. Re-think the SEO to cut down on duplicate content and/or options for canonical URLs

    Idea: Re-think the SEO to cut down on duplicate content and/or options for canonical URLs

    The current setup means that recurring events are classed as duplicate content by search engines. This is terrible for SEO. There needs to be a way to fix this issue, and I can think of 2:

    1. Set up the future recurring events so that they all use the same URL. The events on my site are not different year-to-year, so there is no reason the page/content/URL must be different. A single URL would suffice, but placed in the correct recurring dates in the calendar…

  16. Organize events by hour/venue. In a day view, rows are hours and columns are venues.

    To better present events for festivals with multiple venues being run simultaneously, it be would be nice to have a day view where events are laid in a hours/venues matrix. Rows being the hours, columns being the venues.

  17. Enable SSL option for Events Calendar pages

    Because the Events Calendar is URL based, rather than pages, it is difficult to specify that calendar pages should be secured with SSL. How about a settings option for the events calendar pages to be SSL if the user has a certificate installed?

  18. Allow ics export for entire calendar year

    We publish an annual planning calendar and would like to duplicate it online. It would be really helpful if there were a way for our users to export a calendar year's worth of events at a time. Or better, a way to specify a date-range for exporting. I realize that a large date-range (perhaps even a year) would create a lot of entries, but for planning purposes, that's what users require. Asking them to export month-by-month seems a little cumbersome.

  19. A 'hide past events' option on plugin settings

    Some companies need to hide the past events from your agenda, keeping the focus only in future events. The Events Calendar PRO do not have this option.

  20. Display Google map while adding EVENT LOCATION DETAILS to allow to check that the location on the map is correct before submitting the event

    Display a Google map aside of the EVENT LOCATION DETAILS on the add new/edit Event page, so one can check that the location address has no errors or misinterpretations by Google map and one can check the map if it is correct before submitting the event.
