Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

  1. Enable SSL option for Events Calendar pages

Because the Events Calendar is URL based, rather than pages, it is difficult to specify that calendar pages should be secured with SSL. How about a settings option for the events calendar pages to be SSL if the user has a certificate installed?

  2. A 'hide past events' option on plugin settings

Some companies need to hide the past events from your agenda, keeping the focus only in future events. The Events Calendar PRO do not have this option.

  3. Allow ics export for entire calendar year

We publish an annual planning calendar and would like to duplicate it online. It would be really helpful if there were a way for our users to export a calendar year's worth of events at a time. Or better, a way to specify a date-range for exporting. I realize that a large date-range (perhaps even a year) would create a lot of entries, but for planning purposes, that's what users require. Asking them to export month-by-month seems a little cumbersome.

  4. Option to hide ongoing events from upcoming events list

I have many events that run for many weeks or over multiple weekends. I would like an option to only show events that have not started yet (today onwards).

  5. Display Google map while adding EVENT LOCATION DETAILS to allow to check that the location on the map is correct before submitting the event

Display a Google map aside of the EVENT LOCATION DETAILS on the add new/edit Event page, so one can check that the location address has no errors or misinterpretations by Google map and one can check the map if it is correct before submitting the event.

  6. Change organizer and venue author.

As admin of a community for events I would like to add my organizer and venues, then be able to select which users are the "authors" of those CPT's. A great feature would be to create a Venue or organization but have its author be someone other than myself (as admin)?

When registering CPT’S in wordpress i know there is an option for author support. Is this something I can turn on for these two items?

  7. Show more details on map pop-up

    As per this thread: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/map/#post-938982

Add the ability to add more detail in the map pop-up, such as Venue Name, Event Start Date, Ticket Links, etc.

  8. Add Description Text for Custom Fields

It would be really useful if I could add description text for custom fields. This text would appear on the admin page probably in small italics underneath the provided Field Label. Currently, I have to access the field by the full label in the code. For example:

    `$fields = tribe_get_custom_fields();
    $show_accommodations_info = $fields["Hide Accommodations Info Links? (shown by default)"] != "hide";`

This is kind of awkward, especially if I need long/detailed help text. And, it is error prone – if I want to change the help text, I have to change the Field Label, which means I have to change…

  9. Use Google Maps to autocomplete venue address boxes

Having many venues it is a lot of pain to enter each adress. I have seen many plug ins that have a better way to do it. They offer just one line with google maps autocomplete to enter the adress! Thats the way it should be I think. Can provide screen shot.

  10. Venue Map - all Venues

Each venue has an address and can display a Google Map showing people where it is.
I need a single map which displays all venues. (Perhaps restrict the map to include only venues with events in a given date range.) For the map markers, allow a different marker per category, with venue details in a pop-up box, and marker grouping in case there are several venues close to each other.
Several GPL plugins exist to produce a decent multi-marker map. Perhaps integration with one of them?

  11. Create a Visual Composer Extension

Create a module that can be configured using Visual Composer so that an event can be featured on the homepage or a list of upcoming events with a particular tag(s) or categories display

e.g. show next 3 events in category Y

    Hello all,

Without being a full-fledged solution, please note that the upcoming version 4.3 of Events Calendar Pro will include a shortcode for the full calendar.

This will most likely cover a lot your needs such as:
    1) Having the full calendar on the home page
    2) Integrating the Calendar in a fixed container while using Visual Composer

    Stay tuned!

  12. create a search bar widget

Make the events search bar a widget. It’s such a great tool, but it’s hidden on my homepage with no easy way to put it out front where it really belongs.

  13. add waitlist capability

If events are sold out, it'd be nice to have a waitlist capability for last minute ticket cancellations.

Thanks for your votes! We have this on our longterm roadmap for Event Tickets Plus.

Some folks have started using the free Event Tickets addon as a waitlist ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/event-tickets/ ). With that plugin installed a new type of ticket becomes available: RSVP. You can add RSVPs “tickets” to sold out events. This allows users to share their email address if they are interested in attending. You can then email the list of interested users when a ticket becomes available.

With some minor wording modification you can even rename RSVP to “Waitlist” and change any other verbiage to help make this a decent wait list feature for your website.

  14. Composer Repo/Link for Pro Plugins

This doesnt neccesarily have to be a repo, it could just be a link to a versioned zip file.

Im sure its a major strurcture change, but, for instance, I can include ACF in my composer.json via the a link to a versioned zip file with my account key:

    http://connect.advancedcustomfields.com/index.php?p=pro&a=download&k=ACCOUNT_KEY&t=VERSION_NUMBER

This is like, the lowest feature on the totem pole, but if you ever end up refactoring how pro files are distributed, it would be great if you would consider it.

  15. Improve list view to display all events per month/week/year/day etc.

The List view is probably the Event Calendars strongest selling point in my personal opinion.

But it could be even better.

Right now, the list view will display XX number of events, grouped into Months.
It will NOT however, display ALL the events occurring in that month on the same page, if there are more events then XX. Instead it will break the month view into two.
Likewise it will also display two months on the same page if there is not enough events in the first month to generate a page break.

It is potentially confusing for the end…

  16. In List View group events by day

    It would be great to have the option to group events by day in the list view: Essentially creating a list that would look something like this;

    Monday 1st:
    -------------------
    Event 1
    Event 2
    Event 3

    Tuesday 2nd
    --------------
    Event 4

    Thursday 4th
    ------------
    Event 5
    etc.

Now we do have the List view, which is grouped by Month only, with no way to group events happening the same day under the same heading. (Apart from creating a template override I guess... )

  17. SEO Friendly permalinks: event/month-day-year/title

It would be great to have a bit SEO friendlyness for the URL structure. Either: event/month-day-year/title or event/category/month-day-year/title.

This would most certainly benefit everyones events to show up on Google abit better and the URL structure would keep consistent and clean all the way :)

More thoughts about URL friendlyness is described here: http://searchengineland.com/seo-friendly-url-syntax-practices-134218

  18. More information in ticket email templates

Add more information to email templates for a range of events. Emails templates could possibly list.
    - Name Of Event
    - Image of event
    - Description of event
    - Ticket information
    - Important information
    - Event date/time
    - Location Information (venu)
    - Map of event location
    - Company Contact details

  19. Remove /category/ from urls

For SEO purposes, remove /category/ from urls like mysite.com/events/category/music/ for SEO Purposes. It should be mysite.com/events/music/ instead.

  20. Event Sponsors

Many events have lots of sponsors in order to make them a success. Many events are supported by sponsors, generally financially and in return ask for advertising and promotion at an event or through the events media - website, Facebook, flyers etc.

It would be great if you could add sponsors to the single event page, with the sponsor name, logo and weblink.
