Feature Ideas
Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!
We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!
If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.
Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:
- Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
- Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
- Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.
Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

add waitlist capability
If events are sold out, it'd be nice to have a waitlist capability for last minute ticket cancellations.

Thanks for your votes! We have this on our longterm roadmap for Event Tickets Plus.
Some folks have started using the free Event Tickets addon as a waitlist ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/event-tickets/ ). With that plugin installed a new type of ticket becomes available: RSVP. You can add RSVPs “tickets” to sold out events. This allows users to share their email address if they are interested in attending. You can then email the list of interested users when a ticket becomes available.
With some minor wording modification you can even rename RSVP to “Waitlist” and change any other verbiage to help make this a decent wait list feature for your website.

create a search bar widget
Make the events search bar a widget. It’s such a great tool, but it’s hidden on my homepage with no easy way to put it out front where it really belongs.

Composer Repo/Link for Pro Plugins
This doesnt neccesarily have to be a repo, it could just be a link to a versioned zip file.
Im sure its a major strurcture change, but, for instance, I can include ACF in my composer.json via the a link to a versioned zip file with my account key:
http://connect.advancedcustomfields.com/index.php?p=pro&a=download&k=ACCOUNTKEY&t=VERSIONNUMBER
This is like, the lowest feature on the totem pole, but if you ever end up refactoring how pro files are distributed, it would be great if you would consider it.

Improve list view to display all events per month/week/year/day etc.
The List view is probably the Event Calendars strongest selling point in my personal opinion.
But it could be even better.
Right now, the list view will display XX number of events, grouped into Months.
It will NOT however, display ALL the events occurring in that month on the same page, if there are more events then XX. Instead it will break the month view into two.
Likewise it will also display two months on the same page if there is not enough events in the first month to generate a page break. It is potentially confusing for the end…

That’s a great idea. We are anxious to see how many other people think this would be a more intuitive setup. Thank you very much for sharing the idea. :)

In List View group events by day
It would be great to have the option to group events by day in the list view: Essentially creating a list that would look something like this;
Monday 1st:
Event 1
Event 2
Event 3Tuesday 2nd
Event 4
Thursday 4th
Event 5
etc.Now we do have the List view, which is grouped by Month only, with no way to group events happening the same day under the same heading. (Apart from creating a template override I guess... )

SEO Friendly permalinks: event/month-day-year/title
It would be great to have a bit SEO friendlyness for the URL structure. Either: event/month-day-year/title or event/category/month-day-year/title.
This would most certainly benefit everyones events to show up on Google abit better and the URL structure would keep consistent and clean all the way :)
More thoughts about URL friendlyness is described here: http://searchengineland.com/seo-friendly-url-syntax-practices-134218
What do you guys and gals think?

More information in ticket email templates
Add more information to email templates for a range of events. Emails templates could possibly list.

Venue picker: show venue city, state to disambiguate venues with same name in different cities
The venue picker lists all existing venues by name, but does not indicate the city/state for each venue. The result is that venues with the same name but in different cities will be indistinguishable on the list.
Example: churches, schools, synagogues have common names that reoccur from city to city. Rather than working around this by modifying the venue name itself [eg, "St. Luke's Lutheran Church (Seattle)", "St. Luke's Lutheran Church (Federal Way)"], it would be nice to keep the venue titles clean and instead disambig based on the city, state.

Remove /category/ from urls
For SEO purposes, remove /category/ from urls like mysite.com/events/category/music/ for SEO Purposes. It should be mysite.com/events/music/ instead.

Event Sponsors
Many events have lots of sponsors in order to make them a success. Many events are supported by sponsors, generally financially and in return ask for advertising and promotion at an event or through the events media - website, Facebook, flyers etc.
It would be great if you could add sponsors to the single event page, with the sponsor name, logo and weblink.

Make Event featured image dimensions adjustable (thumbnail, medium, full)
Standard behaviour is that it uses the full size. Adjusting is possible via theming and page template, but in most themes this is easily adjustable, so why not here.

Add a "redo search when map moved" feature similar to yelp.com's search results page
When moving or zooming the map it'd be great to have an option to have the list underneath the map refresh to only show the events relevant to what's being displayed in the map. For an example of this just see yelp.com's search results.

Have Calendar Widget show next 5 events regardless of month
in the calendar widget there are "only" shown events that are in the future of the current month. (I selected to show 5)
but if there are events in the following months and not in the present, it does only show the calendar, but not the next events.
sure, if I "switch" the month in the widget to another month, the events of this future or past month are shown, but the customers are lazy, they want to have it like:
when calling the site, show the X(5 in my case) upcoming events and only if i switch to future…54 votes -
Add 'today' option to the admin page filter
At the Filters & Columns area of the Events admin page, the user may add a 'Start date' filter and save it. This is convenient for future use. It would be even better to give the saved filter the ability to use today's date as a parameter.
But when choosing the start date 'date' from the dropdown calendar, there is no option to choose 'today' as the date. Another solution may be to add 'On and After Today' and 'On and Before Today' to the 'Start Date' dropdown menu.

Display search results in list view when month is default view
When doing a keyword search when month/calendar view is default, it would be much more user friendly to display a list if search results of all future events rather than just searching and displaying those (if any) in the current month and having to scroll through.

Create an alternative list of States - Provinces the style of the of Countries.
The creation of an alternative list of states would serve all users to create a list of your Country Provinces and thus can even limit state is directed to the Calendar Eventes and that Country .
Eg . I live in Spain in the province of Navarra and just want to include events from my province and bordering this would be in Spain ( Gipuzkoa , La Rioja , Zaragoza, Alava,
Huesca ) and France (Pyrenees-Atlantiques , Hautes Pyrenees ) .Since other lists Countries already implemented , I select :
ES, Spain
FR, FranceWith an alternative list of…

Howdy folks,
Thanks for all the votes and feedback regarding this subscription/newsletter idea. It is something we have talked about a lot as a result of your feedback.
The author of Events Calendar Newsletter, a third party plugin, just wrote an excellent tutorial regarding integrating that plugin with The Events Calendar so folks can subscribe to your calendar. It covers sending out event based newsletters, possible ways to add a subscribe button to your site, and so forth. It seems ideally suited to the folks requesting this feature. :) We have heard nothing but good things from the users of this Newsletter plugin and wanted to share this possible 3rd party solution with y’all that’s available now.
Cheers!
