Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

  1. Create countdown timer that can be set for each particular event

Right now, the countdown timer can either be set to display [1] the next event, or [2] a particular event. Since my business has many events, it would be most helpful to enable a countdown timer for every single event (so if I visit event A, I see countdown timer A; if I visit event B, then I see countdown timer B).

  2. Add a language configuration for Google Maps links

The google map link in venue info has now a parameter hl=en. It would be great to be able to configure it to use any language.

  3. Change month view search results to display month of first event occurrence

On our website we have chosen Month View as our default calendar view. When a user searches an event that occurs in a future month, they see nothing because search results always display the current month. The user thinks the event doesn't exist, in cases where the event happens in a future month.

We'd like to request this be changed so that search results display the month of the first occurrence of the event... a more effective means to display results and improve user experience.

    Thanks for considering!

  4. Shortcode > Featured Organizer

As well as having a tribe_featured_venue shortcode it would be great if there was a featured organiser. I know you can create a list of organisers and venues using the shortcode plugin but I want specific results. Fingers crossed

  5. Improved Support for Custom Taxonomies & Terms

Currently, creating a custom taxonomy for events leaves the resulting taxonomy/term listing page using a template other than the one from The Events Calendar (previously brought up here: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/custom-taxonomy-template/)

I used the workaround to append ?post_type=tribe_events to the URL of the page to have it trigger the calendar to show.

Ideally, this should be more native than having to filter links to terms being applied to calendar to have the resulting page show the calendar.

  6. Support some custom HTML in event excerpts

Allow custom HTML in the excerpts section, like WordPress posts do: https://codex.wordpress.org/Excerpt

In list view It would be nice to be able to add links and change text size for certain items. (ex. RSVP now link)

  7. Improve the search suggestions in a location search bar so they appear "as you type".

A search suggestion in the location search bar needs improvement. Now the suggestions appear after the user hit "Find Events".
What is a reasoning behind suppressing google snappy suggestions as one types? (as you use theirs api?)
I have used your site as a test http://wpshindig.com/events/ so it is not the problem with my server.
The search suggestions would solve a lot of problems and requests reported here about misinterpretation of the city. It would also increase the user awareness on how the search should be phrased. On top of it it would feel more interactive and 21 century;) and…

  8. Display the weather forecast for events 10 days out

You could have an option to show the weather for events 10 days out or less. Similar to how you are showing the location map. You could possibly use the weather.com api.

  9. Add tribe_edit_category capability for user roles

Allow control of category capability as you do for venue, organizer, e.g. edit_tribe_organizer, so we can prevent editors from adding or changing calendar categories.

  10. Make Event featured image dimensions adjustable (thumbnail, medium, full)

Standard behaviour is that it uses the full size. Adjusting is possible via theming and page template, but in most themes this is easily adjustable, so why not here.
AND: less work in case of a major update.

  11. Venue picker: show venue city, state to disambiguate venues with same name in different cities

The venue picker lists all existing venues by name, but does not indicate the city/state for each venue. The result is that venues with the same name but in different cities will be indistinguishable on the list.

Example: churches, schools, synagogues have common names that reoccur from city to city. Rather than working around this by modifying the venue name itself [eg, "St. Luke's Lutheran Church (Seattle)", "St. Luke's Lutheran Church (Federal Way)"], it would be nice to keep the venue titles clean and instead disambig based on the city, state.

  12. Make external event link a button or word instead

Where we can make a External Event link a button instead of the full external link. If the external link to the event is quite long it doesn't make a pleasant design. The long external links are ungly on their own in body content of a blog post. If we could use the words "link" or external website.

I also posted this to the WordPress forums.

Add the ability to display event in a continuous timeline. Perhaps something like this - http://theme-fusion.com/avada/timeline-full-width/ for the type of layout

  14. More detailed backend settings for events in main blog loop & rss feed

Requesting more settings for the backend feature "events in main blog loop", namely select options for:
    1) ascending or descending event ordering
    2) use either event start date OR event post date

  15. Event Redirect Link from Calendar

Add an option to redirect an event to a static page, post or external URL. Event shows in calendar grid and listings, but when the user clicks the event, they are immediately redirected to the destination URL.

This allows placing events into the calendar such as those managed by a third party, FB events, or recurring events that have a specific landing page and URL, and allows the user to immediately get to the correct page.

(Currently, we are doing this with a separate redirect plugin. Works, but it's extra plugin overhead.)

  16. Add a "Today" button in the calendar view so people can quickly jump back to Today.

Just like most other calendaring software, add a button labelled "Today".
Clicking it will bring the person immediately back to viewing today's date.

For extra smoothness, Have the button only show up when today's date is not visible in the view.

  17. Make Organizer Phone Number tel: links that can open a phone application

Help us make this option easy for our clients to add clickable phone numbers on mobile devices.

Add ability to insert code <a href="tel:123-456-7890">(123) 456-7890</a> instead of just a phone # throughout EventsPro & TicketsWooCommerce

    Great product!

The post-author and categories should also be shown for events, which are shown in the main blog loop (just like regular posts).
