Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

  1. Allow event descriptions appearing in the main blog loop to be stickied

More or less as in the title. In order to promote a specific event, it would be useful to have the description that appears in the main blog loop stickied in the same manner that an ordinary post might be.

  2. Shortcode > Featured Organizer

As well as having a tribefeaturedvenue shortcode it would be great if there was a featured organiser. I know you can create a list of organisers and venues using the shortcode plugin but I want specific results. Fingers crossed

  3. Show Events in Visitors Local Time Zone

It would be really great if our visitors will be able to see their local time zone when viewing the event(s).

This is a core feature in https://sugarcalendar.com/ and other calendar plugin.

Also this feature is common in booking apps like calendly

  4. "Move to trash events older than" setting - option to make this user defined.

We need a way to have past events moved to the trash, but 3 months is too long of a time period. It would be much more useful if that field was user definable. Even 1 day would be better... but an option to trash events that are over would be a better option for us.

  6. Option to show EXCERPT on Upcoming events widget

Would be great if in the PRO version, the events list widget could have the option to show the excerpt - a check box just like for the Price, Venue, City, Address, etc. Thanks :)

  7. Advanced List Widget: [tribe_events_list] to allow category=Yes and Tags=yes

We use the [tribeeventslist] both for individual categories event listings and also the combined list of events. For the latter it would be great to be able to display the category name.
It doesn't seem that you can currently add either the category or the tags as extra information to the view for this shortcode?

  8. Make the Organizer's Email Address a Clickable Mailto Field

It would be a useful feature to be able to email an event organizer by clicking on their email address.

  9. Setting to select the default view for category pages

At the moment, you have the option to select a default view for the main shop page, but the category pages default to a list view regardless of what you have selected for the shop page. I'd like to see the ability to select the default view for both the shop page and the category pages, but in the absence of this, I would think it would be better for the category pages default to be the same as what was selected for the main shop page.

  10. update the body class if the calendar is used as the homepage

Right now, if the events calendar is set as the homepage, the body class tags do not contain a 'home' identifier. This means themes which rely on that tag to apply formatting only to the main page will not work.

I'm not 100% sure that's the case, but it seems that wordpress relies on the first body tag being 'home' to detect if it's the homepage or not, and the calendar simply won't add that tag when I set it to the homepage.

  11. Conditional tag that returns true for any view related to Tribe's event plugins

There are several conditional tags that check if certain views are being displayed like "tribeismonth()", "tribeisday()", "tribeismap()", "tribeisevent()", "tribeisvenue()" etc.

But if you need to check if any of the event related views are displayed, you need to combine many of this checks in one huge functions.

There are several examples available online that try to solve this (http://pastebin.com/c4yujaZC, https://gist.github.com/jo-snips/2415009, https://clicknathan.com/web-design/tribe-events-calendar-conditional-tag/ etc.) but they are incomplete (not covering all views) and "cumbersome" to use because every "tribeis..." functions should be wrapped with function_exists().

  12. Update the Countdown SHORTCODE to include next event functionality

The Events Calendar is a great plugin and very useful for a lot of situations. My one major suggestion so far is as follows:

It would be very helpful to add the "countdown to next event" functionality to the Countdown shortcode. The widget doesn't always fit into a sites design and having to update the current shortcode every time an event passes is quite cumbersome.

The shortcode can be styled using css to greater effect in some cases.

There was a functions.php code addition that someone added in the support forums for this in 2016 but it tends to break…

  13. Shortcode to display all Event Categories used

I would love to see a shortcode that scrobbles all event categories used (with filter parameters built in, of course) in much the same way that Wordpress can scrobble all post categories by default in a sidebar widget. Also, some kind of automated Javascript that gives you the option (maybe in the settings or back-end) to specify which pages you'd like to display the event category widget on (i.e. all event-related pages, everything under /event and /events) would be awesome.

I could definitely see the utility of this feature in other applications besides just a sidebar event categories widget, but…

  14. Allow x Number of Upcoming Recurring Events to Display

It would be great to be able to show more than just only one upcoming event in a recurring series. Ideally this would be per recurring event series so you could customize it different for different recurring events. This would be helpful in situations where one recurring event dominates the calendar for the next few weeks, but you still want to be able to show more than just one.

  15. Private Link Events without need to log in

We had an organization we wanted to allow to purchase tickets before going on sale to the public. However the event gets posted to our calendar and we'd rather it not be seen by the public until the general sale. This seems like something many business and organizations might want.

  16. Add support for Project Nami / MSSQL

Currently Tribe Events uses several SQL commands that are not supported by MS SQL, causing errors to appear in the admin dashboard when the plugin is installed on a Project Nami instance. (Project Nami is a fork of Wordpress that uses MSSQL instead of MySQL.) Using the $wpdb API instead of raw SQL or a custom abstraction layer will enable this plugin to be used on Nami installs as well as traditional MySQL environments.

  17. +Export Events button on category page to export category events only

At the moment, the +Export Events button on a category page adds every single event (on the whole calendar) to your diary (which is a disaster). Would be great if the +Export Events button on category pages only exported the events listed in that category.

  18. Display the weather forecast for events 10 days out

You could have an option to show the weather for events 10 days out or less. Similar to how you are showing the location map. You could possibly use the weather.com api.

  19. RSS Category Filter

Ability to filter RSS feed by category.

We use ECPro & Tickets Plus to manage all our events (a mixture of public and private). Would like to be able to filter by category so that we can easily market events to people interested in a particular type of training course via integration with our ESP. At present it's unusable as using the RSS feed provides links to private training courses and doesn't allow us to target people with courses that might be relevant to them.

I have seen admin comments that other technologies are being introduced but no further information…
