Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

  1. Let user flag their events as canceled or postponed, in the Events Community submit form

In times of Corona this extension brings a lot of value to the calendar as an event can be flagged as cancelled or postponed:
    https://theeventscalendar.com/extensions/event-statuses/

A lot of website are using the Event Community form, therefore it would be great if this extension also support the event community submit form.

This would mean that the users are able to flag an event as canceled or postponed on their own (currently they need to sent a mail to the admin of the website, which is an imperfect process...)

  2. Show Events in Visitors Local Time Zone

It would be really great if our visitors will be able to see their local time zone when viewing the event(s).

This is a core feature in https://sugarcalendar.com/ and other calendar plugin.

Also this feature is common in booking apps like calendly

  3. elementor

Elementor is the biggest thing to hit Wordpress and is growing in popularity and ability on day by day basis.

It's time that Tribe should make Elementor a priority for easy integration and allow the non-intermediate users the ability to adapt their websites.

I am sure a simple widget plugin to bring in the relevant meta data would suffice to start

  4. Community Events: Allow anonymous event submission form to collect contact details

This seems to have come up a couple of times before but never really got anywhere. So I'm going to try it again.

Currently the options seem to allow:
    - Existing registered WordPress users to submit events
    - Completely anonymous events with no contact details at all

My use case is: I want people to submit events that will be moderated by an admin. In some cases the admin may want to contact the submitter about their event before publishing.

The UX for creating a new user is too complicated: adding a password and logging in and so on are…

  5. RSS Category Filter

Ability to filter RSS feed by category.

We use ECPro & Tickets Plus to manage all our events (a mixture of public and private). Would like to be able to filter by category so that we can easily market events to people interested in a particular type of training course via integration with our ESP. At present it's unusable as using the RSS feed provides links to private training courses and doesn't allow us to target people with courses that might be relevant to them.

I have seen admin comments that other technologies are being introduced but no further information…

  6. Allow default ticket end date to be edited

By default, if no end date for a ticket is selected, ET & ET+ auto populate the end date/time with the event end date/time. For our purposes as a busy theater, this makes no sense as it allows people to buy tickets online after the event has already started. This means we need to manually add an end date/time to each ticket which is very labor intensive.

I would like to suggest that the ability to change the default ticket end date/time behavior be editable, either via some sort of settings option on the frontend or via hooks in the…

  8. "Move to trash events older than" setting - option to make this user defined.

We need a way to have past events moved to the trash, but 3 months is too long of a time period. It would be much more useful if that field was user definable. Even 1 day would be better... but an option to trash events that are over would be a better option for us.

  9. Expand bulk print/export attendee actions & check-in functionalities beyond open "edit_others_posts" capability

Bulk print/export attendee actions and check-in functionalities are for "editothersposts" capability which makes it too open when creating a custom editor-like role that should only be allowed to access their own content. The bulk attendee actions and check-in are also provided for community ticket event organizers so why can't the same access be given to subscriber-like roles in Events Tickets Plus?

  10. Community Events > option to import from CSV

Community Events is pretty well done, except if you have more than a few events (or venues, or organizers). It's a real turnoff trying to get larger organizations to use it and not to be able to import. How about adding that option in settings - to expose the importer?

  11. Improved Availability Settings

Offer settings for stock management so that the user can decide how they would like the programme to behave.

E.g. for us, if an attendee is moved/deleted/refunded, we would ALWAYS want the stock/availability to increase back (not sure why anyone wouldn't to be hones). You don't offer this an an option so we have to manually check every time what has happened (and manually adjust if necessary).

  12. Application of discount codes to specific groups of tickets.

As an example - the ability to apply a family discount. Define what ticket types and quantity are required to validate the discount. If that discount could be applied automatically that would be even better.

It means that rather than having to add 'Family' ticket which can only be deducted from stock levels manually, individual tickets will be counted automatically.

  13. Collect Attendee Information for Community tickets

I would love to have community tickets being able to collect attendee information and have all the same functionality as if you were creating an event from the admin (set fields, use saved fieldsets) and all that good stuff the admins have. I think it's a bit tedious that someone submits an event with tickets but doesn't have any attendee information associated to that ticket. I feel like this feature should be automatic or should have implemented awhile back!

  14. Offline App CheckIn

We have a poor signal strength at the front door of our venue, so we couldn’t use the app to check anyone in.
It would be really really GREAT if the app had some sort of offline mode including a list of ticket purchasers. So before every Event i download the final list of purchases and can check them in.

  15. Ticket upsells / custom additional charges

It would be good to be able to have the special information you can add to each ticket monetised. So for instance we sell tickets in a brewery for a special steak night. We would like to be able to have the option on the same ticket to select with drinks or without drinks but the option for with drinks to add £5 on to the ticket price. This way we can sell a smaller array of tickets, which helps out capacity management, but with options that are either non monetised or that can be used as upgrades to that…

  17. Option to stop importing Private Eventbrite events

I'd love to see options that keeps Eventbrite events marked as "private" from importing. I'd even say this should be the default option, as "private" events aren't listed on Eventbrite organization pages either.

  18. More sophisticated related events results

This is an idea to improve the “related events” feature on Event Calendar.

As of today, this feature basically only relies on categories and tags to suggest related events, which is very basic to say the least. There are free WP Plugin out there like “Yet Another Related Posts Plugin” that are based on a customizable algorithm to suggest related posts based on more than simple categories and tags.

For instance, I could imagine that in addition to categories and tags, related events could be based on geography (ex: other events in Colorado / other events within 80 miles from…

  19. Attendee Search iOS app

As an event organizer I need the ability to search attendee's within the app. Far to often people forget their ticket or it goes to their spam folder. I need a quick and easy way to search their name within the app.

  20. Rebuild a fully-functioning Facebook import by scraping data

Facebook is still the #1 place for most people to post events. Although the official FB api is still stagnating, there are other solutions that can work just as well (in addition or in place of the current Tribe Extension).

    Possibilities:
    1. Use the .ics feed. Thats what Time.ly and other competitors are doing.
    2. Parse the URL. This method (used by geodirectory: https://wpgeodirectory.com/social-importer-v2-beta-released/) lets you get information thats neither in the .ics or the old API.
