Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

  1. Tickets: Venue seating chart with different price grade and ability graphically to choose seats.

Add the venue seating chart with different price grade and ability graphically to choose seats (similar plane seat selection with check-in).
Provide ability for ticket admin to "grey out" some reserved seats.

Implementing a graphical solution, where you can click on a given seat and it will reserve it, is probably not possible due to the complexity and technological limitations.

However, would the ability to upload an image of your seating map/chart work? From there you could specify a list of seating names in the backend and when a user purchases a ticket they can select from a drop down of available seats, and cross reference it with your seating chart image so they now which goes where. We realize this will not be as fancy as many people are picturing, but since it is actually possible to implement it is a compromise we would be interested in looking into if this will solve your needs.

We have a KB article about this: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/ticketing-using-seating-chart/

  2. Re-think the SEO to cut down on duplicate content and/or options for canonical URLs

Idea: Re-think the SEO to cut down on duplicate content and/or options for canonical URLs

The current setup means that recurring events are classed as duplicate content by search engines. This is terrible for SEO. There needs to be a way to fix this issue, and I can think of 2:

    1. Set up the future recurring events so that they all use the same URL. The events on my site are not different year-to-year, so there is no reason the page/content/URL must be different. A single URL would suffice, but placed in the correct recurring dates in the calendar would…

  3. Add event cancellation flag and display canceled events on calendar

We have events (events where attendees come to volunteer) that get canceled from time-to-time and we do not want to remove them completely from the calendar so that volunteers who may be planning to attend can easily see it is canceled vs. just gone completely. Right now we edit the title and put "CANCELED" at the beginning. I would rather see a cancellation flag in the event and the calendar shows a line through the event, the word "CANCELED" is automatically added to the title, etc. (perhaps allow users to choose from 2-3 display options in setup for an event…

  4. Show amount of events for each pin marker in Map View

For now if i have many events in one place, i only have on point. It could be nice to show in some way that this is a multi events place.

  5. Recurrence vs. repeating events

Scenario: A singe event that spans several days at the same time. For example a 3-day seminar or class that is 9:00 am - 3:00 pm on all three days.

As it stands now, when you setup the recurrence pattern, on the calendar it looks like three separate events on separate dates. I would be nice to see it span the dates. More so, if you set a price, on the surface it looks like the price is 'X' amount for each day and not for the entire event.

I have seen this functionality in other premium event calendars.

  6. Google Rich Cards Support?

Google is now going to be having Rich Cards, the evolution of rich snippets. It would be great to be an early adopter and have this support. There is going to be a sitemap feature to these as well with webmaster tools preview.

Note: right not its only for recipes and movies, but im sure they'll be rolling more out.

  7. Show more details on map pop-up

    As per this thread: https://theeventscalendar.com/support/forums/topic/map/#post-938982

Add the ability to add more detail in the map pop-up, such as Venue Name, Event Start Date, Ticket Links, etc.

  8. Separate data away from wordpress post meta database tables into independent tables

A giant way to speed up the performance of events calendar plugin: store the data in dedicated database tables instead of wordpress' post meta.

Woocommerce just did this and I think all plugin developers who potentially have a lot of data to store should, too:
    https://wptavern.com/woocommerce-custom-product-tables-plugin-now-in-beta-boasts-30-faster-page-loads

They’re claiming a 30% boost but I ran some tests after migrating test data on a development site with your plugins and I easily got even better performance increase benchmarks! This is a really good idea that you guys would greatly benefit from implementing because the more events that are stored using the current…

  9. Add more features to the customizer

Currently the customizer only allow for adding colors etc. it would be so useful to be able to use the customizer to change the tile/font/etc of a calendar view (month, week, etc.) without having to deal with css and code.

Such a simple thing should not be so hard to implement!

    Thanks!

  10. Reusable Event Template

In addition to being able to define a "ticket template" as described in another feature idea (https://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/3825421-reusable-ticket-defaults-profiles-as-per-venues-a), I would suggest that this same functionality be extended to events themselves as well as tickets.

We currently use the Advanced Content Templates plugin (https://www.advancedcontenttemplates.com) for this purpose but it is limited. For example, Advanced Content Templates can't:

    • insert the event category/categories

    • insert the event tag(s)

    • insert pre-defined a ticket(s)

Having a templating system for events and tickets would be a real time-saver for those who hold the same or similar events multiple times.

    Thanks!

  12. SEO Friendly permalinks: event/month-day-year/title

It would be great to have a bit SEO friendlyness for the URL structure. Either: event/month-day-year/title or event/category/month-day-year/title.

This would most certainly benefit everyones events to show up on Google abit better and the URL structure would keep consistent and clean all the way :)

More thoughts about URL friendlyness is described here: http://searchengineland.com/seo-friendly-url-syntax-practices-134218

What do you guys and gals think?

  13. Past Events Widget

It would be awesome to have a Past Events widget to show previous events. My business uses the ECP to show all of our tournaments, and people always want to see the results, which are embedded on each event page. A widget to automatically show the previous (1-20) events would save sooooo much time! Thanks for your consideration!

This is a great idea and we really appreciate you sharing it. It is very possibly something we could build as an extension or an enhancement we could include in of our feature updates. We will continue keeping an eye on this, and slot it as soon as we can amongst our hundreds of other great feature ideas.

    Cheers!

  14. Please provide an option (maybe an extension) to use abbreviations in US & Canadian state/province names

Please provide an option (maybe an extension) to use abbreviations in US & Canadian state/province names: New Hampshire (NH), South Carolina (SC), British Columbia (BC), Prince Edward Island (PE).
Many websites (including ours) use the abbreviations instead of the default full state name, which is a clumsy workaround and results in a dotted line under SC, BC, etc. (unable to reproduce this here).

  15. Venue picker: show venue city, state to disambiguate venues with same name in different cities

The venue picker lists all existing venues by name, but does not indicate the city/state for each venue. The result is that venues with the same name but in different cities will be indistinguishable on the list.

Example: churches, schools, synagogues have common names that reoccur from city to city. Rather than working around this by modifying the venue name itself [eg, "St. Luke's Lutheran Church (Seattle)", "St. Luke's Lutheran Church (Federal Way)"], it would be nice to keep the venue titles clean and instead disambig based on the city, state.

  16. Upcoming Events Sidebar Widget Needs to be Clickable to Open Full Calendar

Please make it so when people click on the top of the calendar image of the sidebar widget it opens the page with the full calendar -- or make it so I can set this up.

Invariably I watch people new to my site try to do this. I have tried to do it. Other calendars do it. Why doesn't the Event Calendar do it. Did I just miss not setting it up right?

    Thank you.

Set up ticket bundles - for example selling a All Access Pass (all events) or a Pass for a couple of events that provides either tickets for each event and/or for limited seat events a count per pass purchased towards each single event included in the pass.

  18. have an option for setting defaults for the meta fields. Such as defaulting to "All Day Event"

It would be great if the Event Settings included options to set defaults. I'd love to be able to default new events to ALL DAY, rather than having to check that box every time.

  19. Allow save custom recurrence rule set and apply to new event

I'd like to be able to create a set of recurrence rules, with both regular occurrences and exclusions - and then save them as a custom named ruleset that I can apply to another event.

We have many events that run on a regular basis outside of school term-times. We can manually exclude the dates that fall within school holidays, but it would be a massive timesaver to only have to do this once and save it as for example "school holidays 2018" so that we can apply this custom set of rules to any other event. This has broader…

  20. Create an alternative list of States - Provinces the style of the of Countries.

The creation of an alternative list of states would serve all users to create a list of your Country Provinces and thus can even limit state is directed to the Calendar Eventes and that Country .

Eg . I live in Spain in the province of Navarra and just want to include events from my province and bordering this would be in Spain ( Gipuzkoa , La Rioja , Zaragoza, Alava,
    Huesca ) and France (Pyrenees-Atlantiques , Hautes Pyrenees ) .

Since other lists Countries already implemented , I select :
    ES, Spain
    FR, France

    With an alternative list of…
