Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

  1. Additional fields for venues, organizers, categories

In v2.0 of TEC PRO, all additional fields are associated with events only; it does not change what data is collected or stored for organizers or venues. It therefore is not possible to, say, assign a URL to a venue. Being able to define additional fields specifically for venues and organizers would be useful.

  2. Autofill the Event Tickets header image

Make it possible to add the WooCommerce Product featured image from within the ticket meta-block in the event. I would be perfectly happy with either of three solutions:
    1 reusing the header image
2 reusing the featured image of the event
3 selecting a separate image for just this reason.

But can understand if option 1 might conflict with how the image might be used otherwise and option 2 might conflict with the fact that the ticket is stored basically separate from the event, so perhaps option 3 should be it and will save me a lot of time anyway.…

  3. Venue Map - all Venues

Each venue has an address and can display a Google Map showing people where it is.
I need a single map which displays all venues. (Perhaps restrict the map to include only venues with events in a given date range.) For the map markers, allow a different marker per category, with venue details in a pop-up box, and marker grouping in case there are several venues close to each other.
Several GPL plugins exist to produce a decent multi-marker map. Perhaps integration with one of them?

  4. Add a REGION field to venues, and a shortcode to filter venues by REGION.

Add a REGION field to venues, and a shortcode to filter venues by REGION. New York City is technically 1 City, but has 5 boroughs (counties), and many individual cities in those boroughs. A REGION field and shortcode filter would enable us to list venues by borough (e.g., Manhattan, Brooklyn, etc.) or by neighborhood (e.g., Greenwich Village, Hell's Kitchen, Upper East Side, etc.). The next step is to map venues by region.

Just switched from Events Manager (EM). EM maps multiple venues by region, category, and tag. EM displays map points for past events that match those criteria. So you…

Thanks for sharing the idea. Perhaps this could also be used as a county field for folks interested in one of those. Some international address formats such as the Dominican Republic which specify a province + locality + sublocality, which this field might also be used for.

In the meantime, I believe supporters might be interested in the following kb post: https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/additional-fields-for-venues-and-organizers/

  5. Display Google map while adding EVENT LOCATION DETAILS to allow to check that the location on the map is correct before submitting the event

Display a Google map aside of the EVENT LOCATION DETAILS on the add new/edit Event page, so one can check that the location address has no errors or misinterpretations by Google map and one can check the map if it is correct before submitting the event.

  6. Have a rolling calendar view?

One where the rows of weeks continually shift upwards, so that you always see the next four weeks or so in advance?

If a visitor happens to visit the page on the last day or two of the month, they’ll see a lot of greyed-out squares and an apparent lack of events; they’d have to click the tiny arrows beside the month to turn the page.. The current list of upcoming events underneath only seems to show those in the month currently being viewed, so a rolling calendar would ensure students see all upcoming events, even later in the month.

  7. Add Stripe to Community Tickets

At the minute community members can sell tickets to their events using paypal. It would be awesome if they could do so and receive payment through Stripe Connect.

  8. Widgets & Shortcodes > Add start_date and end_date parameters

This would add the ability to show events only within certain dates using our two primary widgets/shortcodes: List & Mini Calendar. You would able to specify a start date, end date, or both.

  9. Create a Visual Composer Extension

Create a module that can be configured using Visual Composer so that an event can be featured on the homepage or a list of upcoming events with a particular tag(s) or categories display

e.g. show next 3 events in category Y

    Hello all,

Without being a full-fledged solution, please note that the upcoming version 4.3 of Events Calendar Pro will include a shortcode for the full calendar.

This will most likely cover a lot your needs such as:
    1) Having the full calendar on the home page
    2) Integrating the Calendar in a fixed container while using Visual Composer

    Stay tuned!

  10. One-page Checkout on Event pages

For a streamlined purchase process, put the checkout form directly on the Event page. (See Woocommerce One-Page Checkout by Prospress)

This would also solve the request by several people to be able to skip the Cart page to go direct to Checkout, and might also resolve the issue of quantities being changed in the Cart or at Checkout.

If there were a dynamic panel right above the checkout form that summarized the custom data fields that would also potentially resolve the issue of making changes during checkout that are then not reflected in those fields .

    There are a few…

  11. Add true Subscribe Functionality for iCal & Google

Downloading an iCal file is NOT THE SAME as a true subscribe to calendar function where users calendars are updated automatically with new events, changes to events and so forth. It's a total disappointment to find out that the other suggestion was closed when it the suggested feature was clearly not implemented. Having a static download is actually worse because users think they've subscribed and never get updates and have no reason to believe that they aren't getting the latest info.

We are planning to add this functionality when we have some open development resources to complete it. Thank you all for your patience!

This snippet changes the “iCal Export” buttons to be webcal:// links, which suggests to calendar applications that they should subscribe instead of downloading the .ics file.

It requires The Events Calendar version 4.6.5 or newer.

Please reference https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/implementing-custom-code-snippets/ for how to implement custom code snippets and let us know how this works for you.

  12. Customizable permalink structure for individual events

Allow customization of the permalink structure of individual events. It would be awesome to have the ability to enable permalinks that mirror those used by other posts within Wordpress. For example, the ability to have a URL such as http://www.website.com/events/2016/06/08/event-title/. This would be a big help in avoiding conflicting URLs for repeating events.

  14. Meet accessibility criteria

The following accessibility issues have been identified:

    Color
    – Link text – green link text on white background provides insufficient contrast (NOTE: this issue is caused by the theme rather than the plugin per se) (Hemingway theme).
    – On the “Welcome” page, on the video, the headings lack sufficient color contrast (blue text on black).
    – On the “Add New Event” page, in the “Date & Time” section, the hint appears to lack sufficient color contrast (light gray on white).
    – On the “Tags” page, the “Add New Tag” button seems to provide insufficient color contrast (white text on blue). …

  15. Community Events: Notify Event Creator When Event Is Published

First, collect the email address of the event creator. It would be great to add these people to our list. Second, send a notification to the event creator when it is posted. It might bring them back to the site again later.

  16. Option to remove events not present in a reimported iCal feed

This option would allow for events that get deleted from an iCal feed to be automatically deleted from The Events Calendar as well. So if you are importing an .ics calendar from a different site, such as Google Calendar or Outlook 365, and you delete the event there it will be deleted from the The Events Calendar on the next import.

The iCal format is dedicated to event creation, and does not contain any data on events that have been deleted. However, with this option checked the iCal Importer could assume that any event no longer present in a given…

  17. No end time option

Though most events have a start time, they often do not have a definate end time. Please add an option not to define an event end time.

Good idea! I definitely see how this would be useful for you. One way you can already achieve this is to set the end time of the event to the same as the start time. Only the one time will show, so List View looks something like this (http://d.pr/i/FhYb) and the single event page looks like this (http://d.pr/i/hRxR). However, this doesn’t work if you use the Week View, as the event doesn’t show any time span.

If you want to remove the end time for all of your events, you can use this snippet: https://gist.github.com/ckpicker/75fecbc6209538b1daf2

  19. Improve the search suggestions in a location search bar so they appear "as you type".

A search suggestion in the location search bar needs improvement. Now the suggestions appear after the user hit "Find Events".
What is a reasoning behind suppressing google snappy suggestions as one types? (as you use theirs api?)
I have used your site as a test http://wpshindig.com/events/ so it is not the problem with my server.
The search suggestions would solve a lot of problems and requests reported here about misinterpretation of the city. It would also increase the user awareness on how the search should be phrased. On top of it it would feel more interactive and 21 century;) and…

  20. Reorganize how recurring events show up only in admin area

My customer has a very large database of events (currently about 35.000). Many of them are recurring events, with quite some recurring over several weeks each day! This makes it hard:
    - to identify the actual event (as in the understanding of our client the event is WHAT happens and not WHEN, so differentiation by dates and showing all of the does not make much sense
    - to keep an overview of all current/coming events, as basically you have 1 same event there over several pages.
    - edit the right (first occurrence) of the event, if something changes later.

    This…
