Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

  1. Extend date range in event aggregator to allow more than the next 3 months to be imported

I have imports to make from calendars which are only seasonal, e.g. some special events in september only. Unfortunately I cannot aggregate them because i can only go 3 months into the future.

More options would be appreciated here, at least 12 months (or even unlimited if possible and of course on your own risk). I hacked it in now myself but that's not the best solution obviously.

And would the amount limit not still be in place?

(and for the record, I am using the custom url to import from other tribe event calendars)

  3. Hide remaining tickets

I want to hide the number of remaining tickets, until a certain threshold is met.

At the moment I do that by adding that threshold in src/views/wootickets/tickets.php in line 131
    if ( $remaining && $remaining < $threshold)

It would be nice though, if that threshold could be somehow defined in the Wordpress backend, so that I can for example define a global threshold and can turn that functionality to hide on or off. (Like in woocommerce).
In addition it would be nice, if for each ticket the threshold could be set individually.
So for example, the check is then performed. …

  4. Ability to prepend/append text to event title

When importing events from multiple sources it would be nice to have the ability to prepend/append some text to indicate the event source and differentiate it from other imported events.

For example, if an import feed came from "Event Organizer A", I might want to prepend "Event Organizer A--" to the event title such that the imported title appeared as "Event Organizer A--Event Title".

Seems like this shouldn't be too difficult to implement and would be quite handy.

  5. Option to remove events not present in a reimported iCal feed

This option would allow for events that get deleted from an iCal feed to be automatically deleted from The Events Calendar as well. So if you are importing an .ics calendar from a different site, such as Google Calendar or Outlook 365, and you delete the event there it will be deleted from the The Events Calendar on the next import.

The iCal format is dedicated to event creation, and does not contain any data on events that have been deleted. However, with this option checked the iCal Importer could assume that any event no longer present in a given…

  6. Event Tickets Plus/WooCommerce. I would like to be able to access tickets in WooCommerce store and The Events Calendar.

I have Event Calendar Pro, Event Tickets Plus, and WooCommerce. Currently, tickets can only be purchased through the calendar. I would like to be able to access tickets in WooCommerce store as well.

  7. Create a Past Events section in the admin

Having all of the past events appear in the admin Events list is really problematic. You either have to constantly delete old events or sort by Start Date so all the old events are at the bottom. Its not very usable.

I would suggest that you only have upcoming events show in the main admin Events list. Then add a new subpage to the Events admin section that says Past Events. This page would be a list of all of past events. Once an event date has passed, then it automatically gets moved to the Past Events subpage.

    This is…

  8. If cart qualtity is updated, force ticket buyer to enter additional info fields

Currently Event Tickets Plus can collect additional information when adding tickets to their cart. (I.e. First Name Last and Name for each ticket purchased.) However, once the user gets to their cart, they also have the option to change the number of tickets they are purchasing. But if they increase the quantity of tickets in their cart, they are no longer required to enter the additional information fields. It would be great if the cart would display those additional fields when the ticket quantity is changed. Maybe a pop-up window where they could enter the additional names and then close…

  9. Force minimum number of tickets purchased

Offer a reduced ticket price for buying X or more, and force the quantity of that ticket to start at X.

We sell reduced price tickets for groups of 3 or more, but the quantity on the product page always starts at 1, which allows anyone to buy only one ticket at the lower price. Currently we have to say, "Contact us for 3 or more" and process these sales manually.

Eventbrite does this beautifully, but we're trying to get away from the extra fees.

    Thanks!

  10. Allow ics export for entire calendar year

We publish an annual planning calendar and would like to duplicate it online. It would be really helpful if there were a way for our users to export a calendar year's worth of events at a time. Or better, a way to specify a date-range for exporting. I realize that a large date-range (perhaps even a year) would create a lot of entries, but for planning purposes, that's what users require. Asking them to export month-by-month seems a little cumbersome.

  11. Change organizer and venue author.

As admin of a community for events I would like to add my organizer and venues, then be able to select which users are the "authors" of those CPT's. A great feature would be to create a Venue or organization but have its author be someone other than myself (as admin)?

When registering CPT’S in wordpress i know there is an option for author support. Is this something I can turn on for these two items?

  12. Option for a redirect to different URL after new event submission and edited events

I understand that there is an add-on plugin to accomplish this but it should be native to the Community Events plugin.

  13. Private/Members Only Calendar

I would like the ability to hide the calendar (and subsequently any events, venues and organisers) from logged out users.

I recently came upon a situation when a site owner asked me to hide the calender unless the user was logged in. I know it is possible to make an event private, however, the site owner didn't like this as they though an empty calendar looked depressing and misleading to potential members of the site.

So why not have the ability to hide any plugin content from users and display an alternative (possibly custom) message requesting the user to login?

  14. WooTickets as an in-house box office system as well as online e-ticketing

Right now all ticket types and prices are published, including free tickets, but as a theater manager, I need to be able to issue comp tickets and reserve seats for events that aren't "published" ticket types. So I need an option when adding a ticket type whether or not to publish it or keep it hidden so that I, as the administrator, can operate the sales of that ticket type only from the back-end box office.

On the same note, it would also be helpful to have a reserve or consignment feature that will change the overall number of tickets…

  15. Show amount of events for each pin marker in Map View

For now if i have many events in one place, i only have on point. It could be nice to show in some way that this is a multi events place.

  16. Duplicate Events

If we could copy and event to make a new one, it would save us from having to retype details that stay the same. The only thing we would have to change would be the date.

  17. Mailchimp integration

An add-on to integrate with Mailchimp would be nice. I would like to automate with Mailchimp a weekly email reminding users of the weeks upcoming events. This would be a nature extension of any calendar plugin it would seem, but I have yet to find that integration.

  18. No end time option

Though most events have a start time, they often do not have a definate end time. Please add an option not to define an event end time.

Good idea! I definitely see how this would be useful for you. One way you can already achieve this is to set the end time of the event to the same as the start time. Only the one time will show, so List View looks something like this (http://d.pr/i/FhYb) and the single event page looks like this (http://d.pr/i/hRxR). However, this doesn’t work if you use the Week View, as the event doesn’t show any time span.

If you want to remove the end time for all of your events, you can use this snippet: https://gist.github.com/ckpicker/75fecbc6209538b1daf2

  19. Community Events: Notify Event Creator When Event Is Published

First, collect the email address of the event creator. It would be great to add these people to our list. Second, send a notification to the event creator when it is posted. It might bring them back to the site again later.

  20. Pro Additional Fields configurable as public/private for Community Events

Event Calendar Pro lets me add additional fields - all of which show up on the Community Events edit screen. It would be good to have an option to customize which are private (admin only and not viewable via the my events screen) and which are public. Probably has an impact on template function calls as well.
