Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our support forums. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

I suggest you ...

  1. Add links to the top of the calendar for previous/next months

My background is in usability (I have a degree in Human Factors Psychology). One of the things that I was surprised not see in the calendar view was a set of links at the TOP of the calendar for previous/next months. I see them now at the bottom, but as a user looking to go to the next month, and with the bottom of the calendar cut off on my screen, I was confused for a bit when trying to figure out how to get to the next month.

It would be fine to have the links at the bottom,…

    • Multiple calendars for the same website, with options to make one private

I am using your calendar for my events calendar on my website. I have a different calendar of specials and happy hours but I cannot find a calendar that's anywhere near as good. I just wish I could embed it twice and have 2 completely different calendars. Week view without times would be awesome! It's really hard to find a calendar that allows you to list a bunch of things that all happen at the same time of day.

        • Duplicate Events

If we could copy and event to make a new one, it would save us from having to retype details that stay the same. The only thing we would have to change would be the date.

Thanks for the votes here. Multiple users report successfully using a third-party plugin to duplicate events. You’ll need to look for a plugin that can duplicate Custom Post Types.

Hopefully the third-party plugins suggested in the comments will work for now, and perhaps we’ll add this as a built in feature in the future.

At this point there is even third-party plugin meant specifically for our products :-)

            Check it out: https://wordpress.org/plugins/duplicate-tec-event/

          • In the month calendar view, put a link to the next month both at the top and bottom of the calendar.

Putting a link to the next month at the top of the calendar would help people who know they're looking for an event in the next month and obviate the need to scroll to the bottom of the monthly calendar.

              • Discount for the first few purchasers

I give progressive discounts for early buyers. The first five to buy a ticket have a bigger discount, the next five a lower discount and then just the regular price. Would be nice to have this option here.

I’ve noticed that Filter bar is working the opposite way that I thought it would.

Event X – Assigned to only Category A
Event Y – Assigned to only Category B
Event Z – Assigned to both Category A and Category B

Filtering on category A brings back X & Z as expected.
Filtering on Category B brings back Y & Z as expected.
                  Filtering on Category A AND Category B brings back X, Y & Z – not expected!

Could we get Event tickets to work with WooExtensions for Product add-ons please. We could then add additional items to customise and add features such as paying for dinners, pickup etc..or add the feature to the ticket plugin .. allowing us to create add-on fields with values..

                    • Community Events: Notify Event Creator When Event Is Published

First, collect the email address of the event creator. It would be great to add these people to our list. Second, send a notification to the event creator when it is posted. It might bring them back to the site again later.

                            Howdy Guys,

Thanks for all the votes and feedback regarding this subscription/newsletter idea. It is something we have talked about a lot as a result of your feedback.

The author of Events Calendar Newsletter, a third party plugin, just wrote an excellent tutorial regarding integrating that plugin with The Events Calendar so folks can subscribe to your calendar. It covers sending out event based newsletters, possible ways to add a subscribe button to your site, and so forth. It seems ideally suited to the folks requesting this feature. :) We have heard nothing but good things from the users of this Newsletter plugin and wanted to share this possible 3rd party solution with y’all that’s available now.

                            Cheers!

                            - Brook

                          • Add the ability to import CSV files via a web address, so partner sites can communicate with each other and pull events from them

it would be fantastic if I could point to a web address of CSV file and import that automatically with certain time intervals.
that would be a really nice upgrade of CSV importer

                                • Private/Members Only Calendar

I would like the ability to hide the calendar (and subsequently any events, venues and organisers) from logged out users.

I recently came upon a situation when a site owner asked me to hide the calender unless the user was logged in. I know it is possible to make an event private, however, the site owner didn't like this as they though an empty calendar looked depressing and misleading to potential members of the site.

So why not have the ability to hide any plugin content from users and display an alternative (possibly custom) message requesting the user to login?

                                    • Allow Multiple Attendees per ticket

Allow the creation of tickets that can be assigned/duplicated to more than 1 person.

                                      For example:
A trip event website that sells tickets for an adventure weekend for large groups that would be staying in accommodation. Some tickets would need to be for a 2 person room/bed, this would be 1 ticket for 2 people so the site would require information for the 2 people to be added to the event.

                                        Howdy Adam,

Typically the only restriction placed on how many people are allowed per ticket is the by the person who accepts the tickets at the front door (or wherever). If a single ticket includes a +1 or more, folks will usually specify this in the ticket description. Maybe you could specify your limit in the ticket description as well?

                                        Cheers!

                                      • Reorganize how recurring events show up only in admin area

My customer has a very large database of events (currently about 35.000). Many of them are recurring events, with quite some recurring over several weeks each day! This makes it hard:
                                        - to identify the actual event (as in the understanding of our client the event is WHAT happens and not WHEN, so differentiation by dates and showing all of the does not make much sense
                                        - to keep an overview of all current/coming events, as basically you have 1 same event there over several pages.
                                        - edit the right (first occurrence) of the event, if something changes later.

                                        This…

                                        • Allow repositioning of RSVP form above Event image, or option for two locations

Many times my users arrive at the event calendar ready to RSVP. Several have written stating the RSVP form is not present. It is, but it appears under the Text/Image/Description/Google Map... Some mentioned when they got to the map they were certain the RSVP form was missing.

It would also be nice to have some style choices to make the form stand out (Font/Color/Container). Thanks for creating Tickets!
