Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

I suggest you ...

  2. Meet accessibility criteria

The following accessibility issues have been identified:

    Color
    – Link text – green link text on white background provides insufficient contrast (NOTE: this issue is caused by the theme rather than the plugin per se) (Hemingway theme).
    – On the “Welcome” page, on the video, the headings lack sufficient color contrast (blue text on black).
    – On the “Add New Event” page, in the “Date & Time” section, the hint appears to lack sufficient color contrast (light gray on white).
    – On the “Tags” page, the “Add New Tag” button seems to provide insufficient color contrast (white text on blue). …

  3. Reusable Event Template

In addition to being able to define a "ticket template" as described in another feature idea (https://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/3825421-reusable-ticket-defaults-profiles-as-per-venues-a), I would suggest that this same functionality be extended to events themselves as well as tickets.

We currently use the Advanced Content Templates plugin (https://www.advancedcontenttemplates.com) for this purpose but it is limited. For example, Advanced Content Templates can't:

    - insert the event category/categories
    - insert the event tag(s)
    - insert pre-defined a ticket(s)

Having a templating system for events and tickets would be a real time-saver for those who hold the same or similar events multiple times.

    Thanks!

  4. Offline App CheckIn

We have a poor signal strength at the front door of our venue, so we couldn’t use the app to check anyone in.
It would be really really GREAT if the app had some sort of offline mode including a list of ticket purchasers. So before every Event i download the final list of purchases and can check them in.

  5. Add more features to the customizer

Currently the customizer only allow for adding colors etc. it would be so useful to be able to use the customizer to change the tile/font/etc of a calendar view (month, week, etc.) without having to deal with css and code.

Such a simple thing should not be so hard to implement!

    Thanks!

  8. Improve Photo View layout

A major frustration when using Photo View is that if an event is slightly larger than the others it can throw out how the events are displayed on the page and rather than having dates in order, left to right across the page, they display out of order so that some rows are from left to right and other rows are from right to left. This is my favourite view but is counter intuitive for visitors to the site who expect their to be a natural order for viewing the events.

  9. Show The Events Calendar link - configure to "open in new tab" rather than replacing the

Would like to include the "Powered by Events Calendar Pro" link on my client's calendars (to share the love and tell the world how awesome the plugin is) however, the link needs to open in a new tab rather than replace my clients calendar page. A simple mark-up is all that is needed.

  11. Add event cancellation flag and display canceled events on calendar

We have events (events where attendees come to volunteer) that get canceled from time-to-time and we do not want to remove them completely from the calendar so that volunteers who may be planning to attend can easily see it is canceled vs. just gone completely. Right now we edit the title and put "CANCELED" at the beginning. I would rather see a cancellation flag in the event and the calendar shows a line through the event, the word "CANCELED" is automatically added to the title, etc. (perhaps allow users to choose from 2-3 display options in setup for an event…

  13. Better UI for reviewing pending community events.

I just installed Community Events and am looking for a way to review pending events before publishing them. Being able to review pending events before publishing was one of the highlighted features that motivated me to purchase Community Events.

When I view the community events list (using /events/community/list/), it does not show all the event information, in particular it does not show the description field (which is required), the cost field or the website field. This means that there is no effective way to proof the entries before publishing.

To remedy this, users need to be able to see all…

    Hi Gene,
75% of what you would like is possible

You can fully revew the pending events submitted by others in your WP admin under ‘Events’. There you will see all the details.

The page you access under ‘/events/community/list/’ lists only the events submitted by you, and not of others. If you are not the site admin, then this is sort of the admin page for you to manage the events that you submitted.

The users will be able to see all submitted and published events on the /events/ page where you can choose from different views, like calendar, day, list etc.
If they click on an event there, they will see all the details of the event.

Your 4th idea is an interesting one. Let’s see how many other people like it.

  14. Community Events WPML support

WPML is necessary for localize event websites, which are going to publish the event/ticket from frontend and sell the ticket.

  15. add waitlist capability

If events are sold out, it'd be nice to have a waitlist capability for last minute ticket cancellations.

Thanks for your votes! We have this on our longterm roadmap for Event Tickets Plus.

Some folks have started using the free Event Tickets addon as a waitlist ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/event-tickets/ ). With that plugin installed a new type of ticket becomes available: RSVP. You can add RSVPs “tickets” to sold out events. This allows users to share their email address if they are interested in attending. You can then email the list of interested users when a ticket becomes available.

With some minor wording modification you can even rename RSVP to “Waitlist” and change any other verbiage to help make this a decent wait list feature for your website.

  16. Notify event organizer of ticket purchase or RSVP

Ability to notify event organizer of ticket purchase.

  17. Ticket Bundles / Multiple Event Passes

Set up ticket bundles - for example selling a All Access Pass (all events) or a Pass for a couple of events that provides either tickets for each event and/or for limited seat events a count per pass purchased towards each single event included in the pass.

    Howdy folks,

Thanks for all the votes and feedback regarding this subscription/newsletter idea. It is something we have talked about a lot as a result of your feedback.

The author of Events Calendar Newsletter, a third party plugin, just wrote an excellent tutorial regarding integrating that plugin with The Events Calendar so folks can subscribe to your calendar. It covers sending out event based newsletters, possible ways to add a subscribe button to your site, and so forth. It seems ideally suited to the folks requesting this feature. :) We have heard nothing but good things from the users of this Newsletter plugin and wanted to share this possible 3rd party solution with y’all that’s available now.

    Cheers!

  19. Email list of event attendees to admin before event

Have a field to enter in the amount of time you wish to receive an automatic email of event attendees and a field to enter who the email is sent to. This idea was suggested to me by one of our clients, it would make it easier for event organizers to view the attendee list if they are uncomfortable with using the WordPress back end.

Loving the plugin by the way, Cheers!

  20. Make it possible to print calendar

For folks who send out calendars via PDF or need to make photocopies, it would be great to have a printable version.
