Create black out dates for community submitted events, such as holidays
Allow for an event to have a "priority" that can override & block out other events on that day
As an example ... I have a fitness center client that has 40 recurring events and they fall on the same day of the week as Christmas. It would be great to set up "Christmas" to be the main event that 1 day and override all the other events that are recurring so we don't have to modify the 40 events because they are closed on that holiday.
I can definitely see how this might be very useful. It may be that this is extremely complicated with our recurring events and such, but I will bring it up with the team for further review.

In short, based on my understanding, it looks like your needs would be met if there was a ressource reservation system included in our Calendar.
That being said, it appears that this feature request was specifically intended for blocking users from submitting events via our Community Events add-on.

I was going to post this as a new suggestion to allow for closed days within an event that lasts over a range of days after posting this as a question in the support forum https://wordpress.org/support/topic/closed-days-for-events-that-are-exhibitions, but I think my idea is the same as this one.
I am using The Events Calendar plugin on a website for an art gallery where all events we post are at that one venue. The gallery is open every day of the week except Mondays. Ideally on the calendar view every Monday would say closed and not show anything else so as not to confuse our potential visitors.
We have a mixture of one-off events taking place all day or for a few hours and exhibitions that run for a month or more. The one-off events all work with the plugin as it is. But the exhibitions are showing on the closed day, because they are entered as all day events with a start date and an end date.
Also from time to time we close the gallery on another day for a private event. The gallery is just one space, it doesn't have separate rooms for private events. At the moment I am putting the private event as an event but in that case that private event should overwrite anything that is on as an exhibition and be the only thing showing in the calendar for that day. Similarly there are possibly times that we might need to close because there is no-one available (scheduled in advance) to be there to open to the public.
I can imagine one way to deal with all of this is to have a tick box to say that this event over-rides any other events on that day. Then any closed days or private event days can be added as an event and be the only thing that shows. Perhaps that could be an addition to the Event Options box that has the 'Hide from Event Listings'.
Another possibility could be to have a calendar for the venue that allows for putting open and closed days (but I imagine that would be very complicated to code).
My only other thought is if there is something that can be done with priority order of showing events in the calendar view, so that an 'event' that is closed or private appears as the first thing on that day.

At the moment as a work around I've made the default view for all events as the list view and on each exhibition event I include in the excerpt and the description the opening times and closed day. But it would be 'nicer' if the calendar fitted.
I am mentioning as there must be others who have galleries or longer running events that have a similar issue of days of being closed within the overall event. I don't know how to actually do this technically and am sure it is a lot more difficult/complicated than it seems at first. In my head I am thinking that it would be something like in Outlook how you can set work days and non-work days in the settings and they display differently.
Just want the option to black out recurring events for a block of days. If I have 30 events running I want to be able to set a global period of eg 2 weeks where all recurring events are suspended for those dates, with the option of being able to display a simple message instead eg. 20th dec -10 jan We are closed for xmas
