Improve the search suggestions in a location search bar so they appear "as you type".
A search suggestion in the location search bar needs improvement. Now the suggestions appear after the user hit "Find Events".
What is a reasoning behind suppressing google snappy suggestions as one types? (as you use theirs api?)
I have used your site as a test http://wpshindig.com/events/ so it is not the problem with my server.
The search suggestions would solve a lot of problems and requests reported here about misinterpretation of the city. It would also increase the user awareness on how the search should be phrased. On top of it it would feel more interactive and 21 century;) and speed-up the whole process.
Additionally, could you test this: for the calendars with a fixed/default country or state set: Would it be possible to include a java script that would add (after hitting Find to not disturb suggestions) the the default country at the end of what user has typed and then send that combined request to google i.e. add ",US" so if user types York it will request "York, US" or York, PA, US" if the default state was set. A java script could include a check that if user typed "," then the additional stuff is not added, assuming that the user did it.
It would solve all the problems outside of US especially. My observation is also that the Google must check the server location (unless you have hard-coded California) please keep in mind that the server is not necessary located near the place that the website is about. So all works nicely for you in California, but if someone has a server IP located somewhere else then the subject of their website it will create problems. Example if I type "New" at http://wpshindig.com/events/ I get New Saratoga, New Campbell but not New York... as a suggestion. Something to consider for you and for site owners.
Thanks for the suggestion. We are looking to improve the search results in a release after 3.10. So should help the results and then we can come back and consider this feature.
