Feature Ideas
Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!
We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!
If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.
Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:
- Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
- Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
- Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.
Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

Compatiblity with Page Widgets and similar plugins
At the moment if you add an event calendar widget to a widget area from the post itself, using a plugin such as Page Widgets (http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-page-widget/), the category selector doesn't work, because, not expecting to be loaded on the post edit screen, it doesn't load all its scripts.
This can be fixed if you want to make your plugin compatible, by modifying line 18 of /events-calendar-pro/lib/widget-calendar.class.php from
if ( $hook != ‘widgets.php’ )
to
if ( $hook != ‘widgets.php’ && $hook != ‘post.php’ )
Now everything works. I realise that if you were to implement this you’d want…

Use Organizer's Featured Image as the Event's Featured Image
In cases where you don't upload or don't select a featured image for an event, use the organizer's featured image.
Many themes allow you to use a post's featured image in different scenarios: home page sliders, widgets, archive pages etc.

Create black out dates for community submitted events, such as holidays
Allow for an event to have a "priority" that can override & block out other events on that day
As an example ... I have a fitness center client that has 40 recurring events and they fall on the same day of the week as Christmas. It would be great to set up "Christmas" to be the main event that 1 day and override all the other events that are recurring so we don't have to modify the 40 events because they are closed on that holiday.

I can definitely see how this might be very useful. It may be that this is extremely complicated with our recurring events and such, but I will bring it up with the team for further review.
If this would help you, please add your votes!

Widget Displaying Recently Added Events
My users have requested a feature to allow them to see recently posted events - very useful for those who check the calendar regularly.

We’ve written a snippet that allows you to customize the list widget to show recently added events. Check it out: http://m.tri.be/uc

Choose Which Events Show on Blog, Rather than All or None
Maybe you could see a window with a list of all the events, and check which ones to add to the blog, or you could choose an event category whose events would show on the blog.

Event Slider
Ability to add code to a slider to display one event per slide. The code syntax would contain the first, second, third, etc event to be displayed. A slide template would be available for customization. Expired events would not be displayed. Provide an alternate default slide in the case where there are no upcoming events.

Some users have successfully made events sliders by using a third party plugin. You’ll need a slider plugin that can pull Custom Post Types.
Update: We now have a how-to for Slider Revolution and Essential Grid at https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/integrating-events-calendar-slider-revolution-essential-grid/

Add social share options
Add an option for these custom posts (each event) for social sharing (FB, twitter, etc. etc.) which will allow visitors to share directly a particular event from the event page.

Thank you very much for sharing this idea! For those interested there are plenty of third party options for sharing your events on social media, check out our article: http://m.tri.be/w7

Allow different page layouts for calendar views and single events
I would love if the calendar was one page layout (in my case full width) and an event page a different one (in my case with a sidebar). The calendar needs lots of room so it makes it sense to display it full width but for an event page I would like to show ads and other content in a sidebar.

Setting to select the default view for category pages
At the moment, you have the option to select a default view for the main shop page, but the category pages default to a list view regardless of what you have selected for the shop page. I'd like to see the ability to select the default view for both the shop page and the category pages, but in the absence of this, I would think it would be better for the category pages default to be the same as what was selected for the main shop page.

Simple/Summary View
I would love to see a simple or summary view of events. Just a list showing each event on one line with date, event name, organiser, and venue (and maybe a category): Eg:
July
06 - Tuesday Track at DISC - Brunswick Cycling Club - DISC
07 - The Loop Criterium - Eastern Veterans Cycling Club - Yarra Boulevard
etc.19 votesWe’ve started design and strategy around this, but requires some backend development changes before we’ll be able to implement it. We’ll keep you posted!

Integration with qTranslate
it kind of work already bc the plugin have translation files but i have to make a link somewhere to domain/es/calendar witch my site have english and spanish. if i go straight to the URL with the prefix the calendar change the language but if you access the calendar and you press the flag for the other language, the page stay on the same language, doesn't change. BUT if i add on the url address bar domain/es/calendar then it get translated and it show the events in spanish. thats one thing. at least if i open the calendar with the…

We worked hard to integrate our plugins with WPML to allow for multilingual calendars. We do not currently have plans to do the same for qTranslate, but we might consider it if enough people were interested.

Additional fields for venues, organizers, categories
In v2.0 of TEC PRO, all additional fields are associated with events only; it does not change what data is collected or stored for organizers or venues. It therefore is not possible to, say, assign a URL to a venue. Being able to define additional fields specifically for venues and organizers would be useful.

Default Settings > Add option to set default start and end times
The majority of our events run from 09:30-10:00. It would be really helpful if I could set a default start and end time within the events calendar settings defaults tab. That way I wouldn't have to edit those fields every event, as none of ours run from 09:00am - 5:00pm.

Use words other than 'Event' and 'Events'
Please provide a space in Dashboard where we can put alternative words for 'Event' and 'Events' so that people can use 'Tour' and 'Tours' or 'Party' and 'Parties' or whatever they need. Not everything is an event.

Add ability to Tweet event posts when published
Hook into the WordPress JetPack Publicize plugin or to WP-to-Twitter plugin to tweet event posts when they are published. This should hook to the WP Shortlinks feature (wp.me) or to Twitter's shortener (t.co) so links can easily be included in the tweet.
