Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our help desk. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

I suggest you ...

  1. [Multisite] A single calendar on the front page and it should contain ALL events across the network.

At this time, there is no way to share the calendar across sites. Each subsite has it’s own calendar.

Add or share all network sites events (from the multisite installs) from their calendars to the main WP install calendar. I mean I want to have a single calendar on the front page and it should contain ALL events across the network.

I think it is a cool idea and you can see how that could be super useful & time saving.

    Can this be done?

    • Use Google Maps to autocomplete venue address boxes

Having many venues it is a lot of pain to enter each adress. I have seen many plug ins that have a better way to do it. They offer just one line with google maps autocomplete to enter the adress! Thats the way it should be I think. Can provide screen shot.

      • create a search bar widget

Make the events search bar a widget. It’s such a great tool, but it’s hidden on my homepage with no easy way to put it out front where it really belongs.

        • Remove reliance on JS for page navigation

TEC's dependency on jQuery is not good practice from my point of view. A site would work without JS, but be enhanced by JS.

Especially with page navigation being dependent on jQuery can (and have in my case) give problems if there for any reason should be problems with the jQuery on the site, or if a user is not using JS in his/hers browse.

I would love to see possibility for at least turning off the page navigation's dependency of jQuery.

          • Standalone version of The Events Calendar not reliant on WordPress

I would love to see the Events Calendar as either a standalone app for situation where I am using OpenCart or a platform other than WordPress.

It would be great to set different currencies for each event, depending on the country of the venue

Thank you for a great idea Heinz.

If you are not selling tickets using Event Tickets Plus, then this is already possible. You can use the Event Cost field for the event to specify the currency and cost for each event on the Add New event screen. While this field can be hidden automatically at times, this extension can keep it available at all times.

If you are selling tickets with Event Tickets Plus then we are somewhat limited by the ecommerce platforms. For instance, WooComerce only supports one currency for the entire store. However, as that article mentions there are some independent third parties that attempt to add this feature to WooCommerce. If you are using one and have had success with it, please let us know what it is in the comments below.

                Cheers!

              • Redirecting to Next Recurring Event Instance

My client needed a way to properly redirect a recurrent event URL to the next upcoming instance. I find it hard to disagree with their logic.

To accomplish this, I’ve had to manually edit the plugin. I want to show my work to 1) encourage this to be filterable by a developer and/or 2) see if there’s a better way.

In events-calendar-pro.php on line 390, I’ve updated the function to look through recurring instances, find any in the future, and redirect to that instead of ‘/all’: https://gist.github.com/logoscreative/94bb1d29b2a4df2750c5

I’d love for this to be done with hooks instead of hacks.

                • Ninja Forms Integration

Registration for events with Ninja Forms would be a nice feature.
Ninja Forms, just as Gravity Forms, has a long list of compatible addons, and would add much more functionality to Events Calendar.

                  • Alert all users with events on same day

I would love a feature that will inform (via email) all users who have events submitted in the calendar for a particular day and time when a new event is submitted that conflicts. The email could just say that someone has submitted an event that occurs at the date and time of your event and provide them with a link to see it.

Could you add a Settings Feature that allows us to easily position our EventBrite Ticket Window to the top of the page?

It would be awesome for those of us who are not coders to have a feature/setting that automates this process: http://tri.be/support/documentation/moving-the-eventbrite-ticket-form/ - Thanks!

                      • Limit ticket early access to members

We like to give our members early access to event tickets. It would be helpful if there were a way to do this via an access code. The code would "unlock" the ticket for purchase.

                        • Frontend Export of Calendar Events to PDF

I recently had a request for a website calendar to have the ability for users of the site to export/download a PDF of the events in the calendar. I posted asking if this was available, and the response was no, but that I should post it here as a wanted feature. It would be a good idea, I think it would come in handy.

                                Howdy!

We wanted to point out Edgar’s easy to use implementation of this feature. For WooCommerce Tickets users you can use the 3rd party WooCommerce plugin: Dynamic Pricing and Discounts ( http://m.tri.be/18gz ). This plugin allows you to configure a discount for logged in users for all WooCommerce products, including Tickets.

Thanks again for reaching out about this. Hopefully that solution will help at least some of you get the feature you wanted right now.

…whereby user can select to view all events by “Category” list sort order. Alphabetically would be fine to accommodate letter or # sequencing; or admin given the option to prioritize sort order. This would help those of us who host 7+ events, and want certain events to be listed at the top based on a higher precedent category, such as "global" category events first, then "local."

Right now all ticket types and prices are published, including free tickets, but as a theater manager, I need to be able to issue comp tickets and reserve seats for events that aren't "published" ticket types. So I need an option when adding a ticket type whether or not to publish it or keep it hidden so that I, as the administrator, can operate the sales of that ticket type only from the back-end box office.

On the same note, it would also be helpful to have a reserve or consignment feature that will change the overall number of tickets…

Thank you for the idea! We are very interested in improving the ticket framework. Some of that can be done already, but it is not very straightforward. You can manually add a new WooCommerce product to your shop set it to be a ticket and hide it. You can also issue coupons that make even existing tickets free for users. Certainly these are workaround solutions, but just so you are aware!

                                      • SEO Friendly permalinks: event/month-day-year/title

It would be great to have a bit SEO friendlyness for the URL structure. Either: event/month-day-year/title or event/category/month-day-year/title.

This would most certainly benefit everyones events to show up on Google abit better and the URL structure would keep consistent and clean all the way :)

More thoughts about URL friendlyness is described here: http://searchengineland.com/seo-friendly-url-syntax-practices-134218

                                        • Organizer Groups or Categories

I suggest to add organizer categories like in event categories, e.g. "Teachers", "Speakers" etc..... to search faster for events of a given group of organizers
