Feature Ideas

Hey there and welcome to our feature request forum for The Events Calendar, Event Tickets and all of the premium plugins we develop provide on TheEventsCalendar.com!

We’re always looking for new and awesome ways to improve our products. We think they’re pretty great out of the box, but we also know that there are often things that could make them even better for how folks like yourself use them in the real world. Our tools help the right people, get to the right place at the right time. How can we improve our products and make them super awesome for you and your users? That’s where we can use your help!

If there are features that our products do not currently support but you think would be a huge added value for you and lots of other people, then please share them here with us. The submission form will walk you through a few quick questions to get the ball rolling.

Before posting your idea, here are a few tips that will help make your request stand out and succeed:

  • Look to see if someone else has suggested the same idea, or something very similar. Many ideas are being submitted and it’s very possible that another request already exists. In that case, add your vote to the existing request.
  • Be as descriptive as possible. What does the feature do? Where would it be located? Who would use it? How does this improve the overall experience of managing an events calendar in WordPress?
  • Use mockups, if possible. Pictures are worth a thousand words and having a visual often brings a greater level of clarity to an idea.

Please not, this is not a place to get support or ask questions about how the plugin works. If you need help, please visit our support forums. If you use our free core plugin, you can post in our forum on WordPress.org.

I suggest you ...

  1. Show html event content and/or html excerpt in tooltip

Tooltips currently show aggregated event info, which is sometimes awkwardly displayed. It would be great to be able to do just a bit of html formatting -- even just paragraphs -- to the displayed tooltip content. Maybe turning this option on/off could be in the events settings?

    • Clear attendee info for events that are seasonal or annual so a uses can update an event and doesn't have to rebuild the event.

Clear current attendee's option for events that have ended but are seasonal or annual. Then a uses can update an event date and doesn't have to rebuild the event or duplicate it.

      • Sort Scheduled Imports Alphabetically

I would like to be able to sort my scheduled imports alphabetically. With the current order of ‘last added’, it’s hard for me to review who I’ve already created a feed for.

I want to be able to look at all my import sources alphabetically so that I can determine which ones I've already created.

Currently, the only method of sorting is by 'last import'

        • Sort Events by distance

A really useful feature that is missing is the possibility to sort the events by distance.
After performing a search, an user would normally expects to see the events displayed by distance (and then by date) so that the closest event is listed as first item in the list and so on...

It just makes no sense to have a random list when you can search by address...

          • unmarry featured events from stickied events (or at least provide that option)

I make extensive use of the featured events option, but I really, really don't want those events stickied. I want them listed in chronological order, because I also run a lot of more regular events and the calendar is confusing to read when the events don't appear in order of start time. I can already do that by unchecking the "sticky in month view" option after it auto-checks, but the current CSS for the featured events option isn't very friendly to not being stickied. That's a relatively easy custom fix (which I've done), but it's still needlessly annoying to have…

            • Each ticket to have multiple ticket types & cost

              For example:

Ticket for an event on a given day at a particular time
              Adult / $15
              Child / $7

The only way to do this currently is to have several tickets for each type of ticket & time, meaning you could have a long list of tickets for users, confusing matters.

              • event aggregator categories & tags

Now we can pick one category when using the aggregator, but in our calendar it's possible that a certain event belongs in more categories.
This means I still have to do this manually to complete the event. Also I miss the option to activate tags. For this the same as with the categories it's handy when we could fill out more then one tag.

                • Support Open Graph metadata for events

As an event manager / organizer we are promoting a lot of individual events on Facebook. Currently the open graph metadata is guessed by Facebook, which results in the wrong image being shown for example.

It would be great if proper og: metadata was generated for the event details so Facebook would pull the right data immediately.

I came across a situation where a customer wanted to buy tickets for an event but they were no longer visible the site. (the end sale time had passed.

                    • Merge GigPress with The Events Calendar

Taking the visual look and layout of GigPress (and all it's functionality) and adding it to The Events Calendar, so you can have a "Tour List" for Music Events (the way GigPress and other tour/event options layout the Tour Calendar - see BandsInTown, etc.) that then links to inner Event Pages like that on The Events Calendar. A match made in heaven!

                      • Add "Show Google Map" and "Show Google Maps Link" options to Default Content Settings Page

I would love to see the "Show Google Map" and "Show Google Maps Link" checkboxes added under the Default Venue drop down on the Default Content setting page.

I have a site where 99% of the events happen on location so they don't need a map to be shown, but there's 1% which happen off-site so a map is very helpful.

It would be a great optimization of our time to be able to have it so the "Show Google Map" and/or "Show Google Maps Link" could be unchecked by default when creating an event (making this an option for…

                        • tribe_events shortcode support multiple categories with option for AND or OR

Per https://theeventscalendar.com/knowledgebase/embedding-calendar-views-tribe_events-shortcode/#common, only 1 category can be entered in the shortcode.

I'd like to be able to do something like this:
                          `[tribe_events categories="bbq,holidays,community" and="true"]`
(since the default would be `and=false` which means OR, not AND)

Another name for this shortcode argument might be `filter="and"` or something else.

                            • Allow users to request Attendee Information using Community form (front end)

Being able to request Additional Attendee Information is a fantastic feature we can use when creating a ticket.

However as it stands only the admin can use this. My users who submit their events and request tickets on the front end have no way to use this feature.

They have to contact me and I have to manually add it for them. Very time consuming and not practical for a large site.

Request > Can this functionality be added to the community submission form on the front end.

There is a "hits" column but it's not possible to order from "most hits" to "least hits". It would be really useful to be able to do that though, in order to see which events are most popular.

                                    • Assign event to users

would be great if it possible to assign an event to user(group) so he/they can view the attendance list and check-in guests on that particular event.

                                      • WordPress admins should be able to edit/amend attendee names

I appreciate that attendees change amend names on their tickets, but admins can do everything else, but not amend an attendee name - please make this change!

                                        • Events Pro - Photo View - Display *Always* Chronological

Event dates are incredibly important to be displayed in chronological order.

Currently the Events PRO Photo View displays events according to how they are displayed on the page (position). I understand the logic here, but *STRONGLY* urge a feature be added to always display in chronological order.

We've paid for this plugin for a couple of years, we like it, but events not appearing by date is a constant problem and confuses people endlessly. Please address this issue for your paid subscribers asap. This is a must have feature!
