Addition: The method described is called "double opt in". For more background on this and why it is required see https://www.mailjet.com/gdpr/consent/.

The booking/RSVP would be completed only if the user confirms his/her email by clicking the link (opt in).
Currently, a user can enter any address without the consent of the address owner. So especially for GDPR compliance every booking should be opted in.

https://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/18963970-add-an-opt-in-checkbox-for-rsvp-confirmation-email does not fulfill legal requirements since having the user tick a checkbox when submitting the form is not considered "opt in".

The same goes for https://tribe.uservoice.com/forums/195723-feature-ideas/suggestions/15837367-rsvp-email. Manually mailing users to verify their email does not suffice.
