I have had issues with the unaccountable generation of multiple recurrences for events that were intended to be single events. We never have recurring events. I'd therefore like an option to disable the recurring events feature to avoid these issues

This "Solution Provided" is really not a solution at all, but a well-known work-around. I am not obviously not worried about my own personal event management, but that of the users of my website. You and I know that it is a Microsoft problem, but the average Outlook desktop user (and there are many of them) doesn't. They will simple assume that my website, and The Events Calendar, is malfunctioning.

Shall I place a technical bulletin on each calendar entry, giving Outlook desktop users instructions regarding the above "Solution"?

Perhaps add a new “export button” specifically targeting users of Microsoft Outlook? There are many folks in corporate, educational, and other company environments that "still" use "legacy" desktop Outlook. See:

Hard to believe that, a year on, this is still an issue. Like it or not, many people use Outlook.
